Home Team BBQ's 20th anniversary is a celebration of the restaurant's success and the community it has built around itself. The founders, Aaron Siegel and Taylor Garrigan, met at a Widespread Panic concert in 2002, and their shared love for music has been the driving force behind the restaurant's unique approach to dining. This fall, they are bringing together members of the band's musical community for a three-day, two-location event in Charleston, SC.
The event will kick off at Home Team BBQ's Downtown Charleston location on Thursday, September 24, and Friday, September 25, with a variety of unique artist configurations. On the first night, Charleston-based Americana act Guilt Ridden Troubadour and South Carolina-bred, Nashville-based artist Mac Leaphart will perform. The second night will feature longtime Widespread Panic associates Bloodkin and soul/funk act Shonuff, who will perform in the restaurant's courtyard. During the second night, Williams Tonks, a dobro player who played with founding Panic drummer Todd Nance in the Romper Stompers, and Widespread Panic percussionist Sunny Ortiz will join Bloodkin on stage, and Davis Coen will perform during the set break.
The final day of the event will take place at The Refinery on Saturday, September 26, and will tap into both the South Carolina and Widespread Panic musical communities. The show will feature sets by Paul Cauthen, SCAM Allstars, WERI Workhorses of the Entertainment/Recreation Industry, and Mac Leaphart & Reid Stone. Two of these acts are veritable supergroups. The SCAM Allstars boast a lineup of talented musicians, including Cameron Williams, Sam Holt, Randolph Turner, Jason Fuller, Stephen Spivey, and Richard Proctor, with special guests like Jerry Joseph, Eric Carter, Eric Martinez, Winfield Smith, Jon Eldridge, and Ortiz.
The WERI Workhorses of the Entertainment/Recreation Industry bring together Ortiz, Ben Reynolds, William Tonks, and Rob Keller. Ortiz recently joined Holt, a former Widespread Panic guitar tech and sub lead guitarist, in Chattanooga, TN, during a stop on the annual Michael Houser tribute run. This celebration of music and community is a testament to the power of shared experiences and the enduring connections that can be formed through music. It's a reminder that sometimes, the best things in life are the ones we share with others.
